A few days ago, one lucky Booktoker shared an interesting letter she had received from HarperCollins! Ash has since posted 3 videos sharing everything she–and all of us–knows about this mysterious project titled The Ending Writes Itself by Evelyn Clarke. The book is co-written by two well-known authors whose identity have not yet been confirmed. I think I’m not alone in saying I’m always up for a good mystery-solving adventure, so I can’t wait for new puzzle pieces to be revealed about this project!
In this article, I’ll compile all the information and clues we have about this release!
What do we know so far about The Ending Writes Itself?
Set to release in April 2026, The Ending Writes Itself is a novel by Evelyn Clarke—a pen name shared by two bestselling authors whose identities remain a mystery. These veteran writers, each with over a decade of publishing experience, have teamed up to write about the not-so-pleasant side of the publishing industry. While their names haven’t been revealed just yet, they’ve promised to drop clues along the way—so keep your eyes peeled!
What is The Ending Writes Itself about?
Arthur Flech, the world-famous author is dead. But his most anticipated, final book is not finished. 6 authors are invited in a Scottish island to write the ending of the book, but only one of them will get chosen to receive the 2 million dollars and 3 book contracts as a reward.
Who are the authors behind the project?
As of right now, we don’t have too much to go on. One of the most compelling theories that a lot of commenters share on Tiktok is V. E. Schwab’s involvement as she has mentioned in her newsletter that she’s working on a secret side project called “Quill”.
Another theory I find interesting mentions Julia Quinn, as the letter the arc readers have received starts off with her famous line–” Dear reader”–used throughout the Bridgerton series.
Pin it for later!

That’s all I have for you right now, I’ll make sure to update this post if there’s any development on the book in the future! Subscribe to my newsletter so you can receive updates on any future developments!
